I found a source last year for a storage carrot, meant to be kept in a root cellar all winter, but now I can't find it, and I don't remember what it was called !
I know it's not oxheart, as it was more uniform top to bottom. It was also about 2 inches across, and orange to red (I think). I believe it came from somewhere in Europe, I want to say France but I'm not sure. We just built a root cellar so I wanted to try it... anyone out there know its name? Thanks!

Check out the one on top. Fits your description, but they don't have it this year. Check the SSE Yearbook for it if it seems to be what you were looking for. Tom |

SSE has the seeds of several European fodder carrots which I donated. These are surely good storage carrots, with big roots but suitable for human as well as animal consumption. My source was USDA--I am an ARS cooperator. The Daucus collection is held in Ames, Iowa. The curator of vegetable crops is Dr. Kathleen Reitsma, email kreitsma@iastate.edu. She is a friend of SSE, as are other scientists there, e.g. Mark Widrlechner,Mark Millard and David Brenner, who was at the 2008 Campout.
