Frank mentioned above Kurrat or Egytian Leek (Allium ampeloprasum var. kurrat). It is apparently cultivated in the Middle East, but is also hardy according to a Swedish source I have. Does anyone have this? I've received seed on a couple of occasions - lost one batch which germinated, a second batch from the SSE Yearbook didn't germinate (anyway I'm not sure it was the real thing as the packet said Allium kurrat - Chinese Chives!). This summer I was a given a plant, but it turned out to be Allium ramosum (Chinese Chives!). I also saw a sign for Allium kurrat in the botanical garden in Uppsala, Sweden this summer, but the plant next to the sign also looked like Allium ramosum (picture below). Were all these coincidentally from the same (wrong) source?
