Default Sprouting potatoes inside ?

Years ago I saw a show on some public TV program where people in Holland were sprouting potatoes in their basement, and as soon as the shoot was a couple inches long, they broke it off and rooted in in a flat, then the potato would grow more shoots and repeat the process. After the weather warmed they would set the small plants out and get many times as many potatoes as if the had just planted the whole or cut tubers. Does anyone here know this technique or where I should look for info ?--mike

Mike, this is called green sprouting. I recommend to use egg cartons to place the tubers in the same direction of planting. You need to recognize the stern-end vs. sprouting top of the tuber and place it correctly. More info and pix on my web site kenoshapotato.com

the method of planting the shoots gets rid of the bacteria and viruses
it is a good idea at least every 5 years so that your potatoes keep growing well.
